Found it at the library

Ever wondered what to do with those odd socks whose partner has disappeared between the washing basket, washing machine and clothes line, well checkout ‘Stray Sock Sewing’ by Daniel.

This book is filled with all sort of cuteness and I just can’t get enough of these pictures by Chiawei Liao.

DSC08233

I have flicked through this book I don’t know how many times and still can’t decided which one I want to make cos they are all so adorable.

DSC08234

Part One is all about Sock Dolls, Part 2 The Basics of Making Sock Dolls and Part 3 Projects Step by Step.

DSC08231

These little guys would make a fantastic present for young and old.

So why not checkout your local library and see if they have it on the shelf.

Happy Reading.

Tooth Fairy Pillow

My niece lost her very first tooth not to long ago and has another wiggle one ready to fall out so when se came to stay these school holidays I told her that I would make her a tooth fairy pillow.

I had a few ideas running around in my head as to what I wanted to make her but she insisted on having something similar to the one that Miss J has.

Now the one that Miss J has is my very own tooth fairy pillow that use to grace the top of my bed with all the other pillows and toys that I had placed in a particular order.

DSC08360DSC08363

Poor thing is yellowing and I offered to make Miss J her very own but she insisted that she wanted mummy’s.

So here is what Miss S wanted Aunty to make. One pink heart with 2 blue stars was requested.

DSC08359

The pillow itself is only 6 inches x 8 inches and the heart on the front is the pocket for the tooth.

DSC08352

I made a couple of templates out of cardboard for the applique stars and heart.

DSC08350

I used heat n seal on the stars, ironed them on then just stitched around the inside.

DSC08356

For the Heart I just sewed around the bottom half of the shape so that it became a pocket.

I didn’t have any lace to put around the outside of the heart so I thought the heart button would be a nice little touch.

DSC08357

Now I don’t have any fabric pens so I used a black laundry pen to write the words on the pillow using a stencil I had picked up at the discount shop. I used my wipe away marker to place the letters before going back over them with the laundry pen.

DSC08353

Then to just sew the two pieces, right sides together leaving a small opening to turn it out, stuff it with hobby fill and then stitch up the hole.

DSC08358

And here you have it.

DSC08365

I think I will use my ideas for Bits & Bobs 4 Bubs.  Stay tuned.

Happy Sewing!!!

In the garden

Just before this miserable weather hit us, I managed to plant some more roses in my garden.  Shouldn’t complain about the rain as we need it.  Everything is starting to look really dry and brown.

I have a long boxed area that I thought would be just right for roses.  Keeps them safe from strong winds but with still enough space to allow the air to flow around them (I read it in one of my magazines).

DSC08270

I have had a lot of beautiful flowers from my first rose and the garden bed has been bare as I wanted to make sure that I could grown them as I’m not very good with flowers.

DSC08279

I have chosen a lovely white/pink and an orange coloured rose this time with room to fit 2 more still.

Can’t wait till they flower.  What's new in your garden?

Link Party Likes #26

I have closed up the Made It store for now so that I can revamp and restock.  I have a new bike caddie that will be coming soon.  This one is up for grabs at the relaunch of 2 Little Bower Birds.

DSC08345

And what have you been up too.  Well here are a few of my favourites:

party pic

  1. Love this little pincushion that Paula from Creating in Glass Slippers has made.  I just throw my pins into the lid of my pin container.  Think I should do something about that.
  2. I just happen to have this gorgeous elephant fabric in my stash at the moment so just couldn’t resist sharing this lovely little set that Kenda’s Crafts has made.
  3. What a great idea this one is, resin flowers on thumb tacks.  Wouldn’t this be lovely with a handmade coordinating pin board. It’s over at Stars & Sunshine.
  4. Loving these cute little dinosaurs over at Aiming for Swanlike.
  5. Fabric Baby Balls are a great handmade gift.  Why not enlarge the pattern and make a fabric balloon ball.  You can find the tutorial over at Cherie Spare Time.
  6. What a great find these vintage suitcases are.  Can’t wait to see what Crafty Imaginings & Silly Things does with them.
  7. Looks like these guys all had lots of fun with the photobooth.  I am going to have to do this at our next party. Check it out over at Brassy Apple.
  8. And one that I definately have to do with the kids is the awesome campfire.  My girls are always collecting sticks and pretending to have a campfire in the backyard.  Thanks for sharing this one EweHooo!

Hope all these lovely ideas helps to get your craft on.

Have a great day!!!!

Ethan turns 1

My baby boy has finally turned 1 and we had a little party with or closest family and friends on Saturday.

I have been absent from blogging as I had been making sure that I had everything I needed to make his day special.

Here are a few pictures of his big day:

Quick Tip

Need to trace out a pattern from a book that you have or borrowed from the library.  Well why not use cheap grease paper.

DSC08257

Place grease proof paper with wax side down, use some clips to secure to the book and trace.

Babushka Clutch pattern from Spotlight

DSC08059

When my niece turned 11, Miss G wanted me to make her a little bag from a pattern that we picked up at Spotlight.  It is called the Babushka Clutch.

E15_12_babushka_clutch_keyring_ps

She also picked the material to use as her cousin loves purple.  It’s the easiest little clutch to make and you can download the pattern from the website.  The pattern needs to be printed at 200%.  Instructions are provided.

But this is what you should end up with:

DSC08022

  • outer fabric, lining and interfacing for the main part of the pattern
  • outer fabric, lining and interfacing for the lower front section
  • magnetic closure

I have never made a clutch or used a magnetic closure so this was really fun and a challenge even though the pattern was simple.  I had visions of the closure not matching up.

I also added a little handle to this pattern that I cut out as 10 inches in length, 2.5 inches wide and folded it in half after I sewed it together. I used the two fabrics and interfacing for strength.

And as a little something extra, I also made a matching little zipper pouch to be placed inside the bag.

DSC08058

Miss G also wanted one of these for herself and so we have picked up some of the Babushka fabrics that is now available at Spotlight that is shown in the top picture.

So have some fun with this little clutch.  There is so much you could do with this.  Add a zipper or mobile phone pocket inside or you could make the closure a zipper instead of a magnet which is what I am thinking of doing for Miss G.

Would love to see what you come up with!

Happy Sewing!!!

Fail

It was the Queens Birthday long weekend and we have had the British weather to help celebrate it.

Very cold and miserable all weekend except for Saturday morning.  We headed up the coast on Sunday to visit family and spent Monday indoors hibernating.

So I tried to make this yummy Eclair Slice that I found on Pinterest.  It belongs to The girl who ate Everything!

eclair-cake-side

Well I’m really sorry to this lovely lady who made this as I FAILED.  First the pastry didn’t turn out right.  I don’t think I got the butter right for the mixture.

Then when I made the filling the mixer decided to go faster then I had intended and I had vanilla pudding all over the bench lol.

If it wasn’t for the whip cream that I managed to get right or the pouring chocolate, store bought, I think it would be horrible.

DSC08061

Ah well I will just have to give it a go again.  Have you had an epic fail when making something yummy?

What’s on the menu tomorrow!

Lol no I haven’t made it yet but I will be for tomorrow nights dessert!  Doesn’t it look divine.  My girl’s think so!

You can find it at The Girl Who Ate Everything!

Will post tomorrow night!

In the garden

Haven’t been able to do much in the garden of late.  Last week it rained pretty much everyday and over the weekend.  Now it’s lovely and sunny but with a gail force wind.

DSC07967

The only thing good about that is that my washing is drying very quickly lol.

DSC07971

Ethan likes to play outside and has been very grumpy with me for not letting him  but he is only just getting over a nasty cold and still has a touch of a cough.

DSC07965

I thought I better let him have a quick run around today while I put a load of washing on the line.

DSC07964

One thing that has been happening in our garden is the girls have a flower growing.  It was funny when they found it.  We had planted some bulbs last year and the girls waited patiently and checked everyday but nothing ever appeared until this year.

Jorja shouted for joy that her sunflower was growing but I had to explain to her that this pot was the one we but the bulbs in.  Yep one lonely little bulb has decided it wants to come out for the girls.

DSC07969

It is going to be a lovely surprise when it flowers and we can’t remember what was planted and didn’t keep the packaging.

Will keep you posted.  Have a lovely day!
