Whats on the Menu–Thai Prawn Curry

I came across a recipe for Thai Prawn Curry last week in the back of a Tupperware Catalogue and as it is coming into the warmer weather, and the recipe having two of my favourite things (prawn and curry) I thought it would be a great dish for Friday nights dinner for Hubby and I.

But when I went looking for the ingredients, I was having a hard time finding Thai red curry paste anywhere at the local shops.

Then I came across this box by Marion’s Kitchen. Marion was a contestant on the second series of Masterchef Australia.  After the series finished Marion create her own food range business called Marion’s Kitchen.

I would like to say a big thankyou to Marion for creating this as it saved me big time and I didn’t have to buy all the main ingredients for the recipe only the yummy stuff I wanted to add.

You can read all about Marion here on her website, and find her blog here. And don’t forget to checkout her great range and more delicious recipes as well.

I will be checking out the rest of the range especially the Pad Thai.

What’s on your menu?

Found it at the library!

I just love finding books at the library about quilting that use gorgeous coloured fabric, so I couldn’t go past this book With Fabric & Thread by Joanna Figueroa.

Joanna is a fabric and pattern designer, active quilt instructor and owns and operates Fig Tree & Company. along with her husband.

You can follow Joanna on her blog  Fresh Figs and even signup for her online newsletter. I have!!!

There are some wonderful projects for you to make from blankets, aprons and bags to pillows, slippers and pincushions.

Instructions are very clear and easy to follow and it comes with paper patterns.

So don’t forget to checkout your local library and see if they have a copy.

Enjoy!

The 15 minute skirt

I love this way of making skirts.  It’s so easy and great for beginners.  There are a few of these tutorials floating around the blogosphere.

All you will need is a metre of some pretty fabric and elastic and your set and as my girls are petite I can get 2 skirts out of 1 metre. Oh and another great thing about the one I made is that it only cost me 50 cents.  Yep that’s right 50 cents. I have mentioned this before but don’t ever leave a fabric store without checking out the remnants bins.  You will be amazed at what you can find and it is always reduced.

DSC09541

This fabric is like a very light velvet with foiled stars all over it and perfect for Miss J everything has to be pink lol. And it doesn’t fray so I don’t have to worry about serging it.

So first of all you will need to determine how long you would like to make the skirt and add on extra for your hem and for the elastic to go through.

Miss J likes her skirts long so I made the length 16 inches, that includes an inch for the hem and the waist.  When finished the skirt will be 15 inches in length.

For the width, measure the waist and then double.  Miss J is 22 inches so I cut it at 42 inches.

skirt

The first thing to do is to sew the hem.  Using my hemming gauge I fold the hem to measure half an inch, pin and sew.

DSC09545

Now to fold the right sides together and pin the sides.  You can cut the fabric in half and then sew both sides so that you have a seam either side of the skirt but only having to sew one side is why this skirt is so quick to make.

DSC09546

Time for the top of the skirt.  I fold this over and pin at half an inch as well as my elastic is only 4mm so depending on the width of your elastic you will need to fold the top over enough to sew and fit the fabric in.

Don’t forget to leave a gap to thread your elastic through.  I like to leave to pins sticking out so that I remember not to sew all the way around.

DSC09548

All you need to do now is thread through the elastic and sew it together. The length of my elastic is 22 inches. To stop the elastic disappearing into the hole I like to anchor it to the material using a pin.

DSC09549

Now just to overlap the elastic I usually overlap about an inch and then zigzag it together to secure it.  If you don’t have zigzag, no problem just sew back and forth a few times.

DSC09556

Sew the gap and now your done.  Easy hey!

Would love for you to share your creations over at the Facebook page.

Happy Sewing!!!!

In The Garden

The grass is looking very brown at the moment and we are in need of a few days rain.  It poured down during the night but not enough to make the grass turn green.

But we are still having some beautiful spring days where the kids can spend all morning and afternoon playing outside.

On Sunday afternoon the girl’s nagged at Daddy to take the training wheels off of their bikes.  This something that we have been a bit reluctant to do as our girls have unfortunately inherited my clumsiness and Daddy is worried about bumps and bruises.

But as I said it might be time to let them have a try and see how they go.  And boy did they go.  Not a tumble at all.  They both rode all the way to the bottom of the yard.

Well done girls, Mummy and Daddy are so very proud!!!!

I have been having a quick look through all the linkup parties and you have all been very busy.  I love that everyone post something different and its not all about the one thing eg sewing or crafting.  You can find a great variety of awesome stuff, and here is some of them:

29 linkup Collage

  1. What a great way to reuse a oneis and there are a lot of cute ones out there.  Bag of Pretty show’s you how to make one here.
  2. I have a few blankets that are waiting for me to make them, but I just love the colours used in this receiving blanket over at Ode to Inspiration.
  3. My girl’s are always making tents out of their blankets but I think this is a better idea, must pickup hula hoop when out shopping I think.  The tutorial can be found over at The Craft Nest.
  4. Just goes to show that the moustache material isn’t only just for boys.  This dress is awesome and I love the exposed zipper.  I found it at Sew Country Chick.
  5. We had meatloaf for dinner last night but I always use beef mince.  So I am going to have to try this delicious looking Chicken parmesan one over at What’s Cooking Love! (loving the name of this blog too)
  6. How cute is this rocking chair over at Design Stash!!
  7. Burlap can be used for just about everything and these flowers are a nice touch to any decor.  I found this at Want to get Crafty!
  8. And finally, I love finding different toppings to use in a cob loaf and this one just looks divine.  It’s a Baked Turkey Pesto Sandwich shared by Barns & Noodles.

Thanks for sharing all these great ideas at the Linkups!

Have a great day and don’t forget to grab a button!!!!!

My First Market!

What a day it was yesterday, my nervous were of the charts lol.  It took me about an hour to settle down and I sold my first 2 items in the first 20 mins.

After that I introduced myself to the other lovely ladies around me and I felt at ease.  I have learnt a lot from doing this stall and now what I will do differently next time.

Here is my mum sitting at my stall.  Now I’m itching to do another one but that will have to wait till next year as I have holidays planned.

Hope you all had a lovely weekend.  Will be back on board this week.
